Tory Horton didn't get many chances to make an impact for the Seattle Seahawks in 2025, but when he did get the ball, he made the most of the opportunity. That was until a shin injury took away the second half of his season, and he was forced to watch as the team played in the Super Bowl.
The receiver is entering his second season but wasn't able to participate in drills during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp. His lack of being able to practice is now changing, thankfully, and head coach Mike Macdonald, while speaking to the media on Saturday, said what all Seahawks fans were thinking.
Macdonald said, "Great to see Tory out there...Haven't seen (number) 15 doing his thing in a while."
Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald says that Tory Horton has returned
Exactly. Seattle has received some disrespect from the national media for not doing much with the wide receiver group this offseason. The assumption by those outside the Pacific Northwest is that Jaxon Smith-Njigba will once again need to be historically brilliant for the passing game to work.
Horton is often forgotten about, however. In eight games last season, he had five receiving touchdowns and a 95-yard punt return for a TD. He only had 13 catches, so more than a third of them going for scores is kind of amazing. He only had one catch that didn't result in a touchdown or first down.
No one should expect that same level of efficiency moving forward because no receiver scores touchdowns on 38 percent of the time. That would result, if someone had 80 catches in a season, in 31 TDs. That's likely impossible.
Still, Horton being on the field gives quarterback Sam Darnold another potentially explosive target other than JSN, Rasheed Shahid, and the more possession-type receiver, Cooper Kupp. A healthy Troy Horton could mean a passing attack that is difficult to stop because of all the speed Seattle would have on the field at any one time.
But for Horton to be at his best, he needs practice reps. He hasn't yet been in the league long enough to be a savvy and experienced veteran. He is still finding his way a bit.
Based on what Mike Macdonald said to the media after the first day of training camp, Horton is back and practicing. Now, the hope is that he won't suffer the same issues as he has in the last two years. He had a knee injury in his final season at Colorado State and a shin issue with the Seattle Seahawks in his first year. A healthy Horton should be a productive one.
