This is how every offseason should be between the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams. When one makes some kind of statement, the other should answer. After all, if 2026 looks like 2025, the teams will once again be the true alphas of the NFL.
This past offseason, the Rams attempted to answer the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl last season by trading for elite edge rusher Myles Garrett. In response to the move, Seattle left guard Grey Zabel recently said that the Cleveland Browns, Garrett's former team, had given Zabel's team a Christmas gift. Zabel meant that the move only raised the stakes in the rivalry with LA.
Not to be outdone, Garrett was recently asked which team he was looking forward to facing most in 2026, and the edge rusher answered, "I want the champs."

Fair enough, and Garrett likely meant no disrespect to the team in the Pacific Northwest. Great players on teams that didn't win the title last year should want to play the team that did. That is how players and teams measure themselves. It is one thing to beat the Browns, for instance, but quite another to defeat the Seahawks or Rams, or even the San Francisco 49ers.
That is what Seattle, LA, and San Fran will be challenged with again in the coming season. If any of the teams were in any other division, their path to the postseason would be easier. Instead, they have to beat one another just to get to an easier part of the schedule: The playoffs.
Was there any real doubt, after all, that once the Seahawks defeated the Rams in the NFC Championship Game, the opponent in the Super Bowl would be less daunting? The New England Patriots were a good team last season, but the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams were elite teams.
The Rams might not be done adding talent. Future Hall of Fame defensive lineman Aaron Donald is contemplating coming out of retirement to rejoin the Rams since LA added Myles Garrett. Donald's hope, of course, is that Los Angeles will win the Super Bowl, making the return logical and successful.
A Rams front seven that features Donald and Garrett would be a scary one, albeit one that likely wouldn't last long. Both those players are past 30 years old now.
As for the Seahawks, LA can do whatever it wants. Seattle is going to go about its business as it always would. The team should be feared too. Ultimately, all the offseason talk and moves have simply made Seattle versus Los Angeles must-watch football again.
