The Myles Garrett era isn't going smoothly at the start for the Los Angeles Rams. The chief rival for the Seattle Seahawks will not have the edge rusher for at least the next four games after LA placed Garrett on the physically unable to perform list, since he will need arthroscopic surgery on his knee.
Those Seahawks fans watching the game saw that the elite player wasn't 100 percent. He didn't record a single statistic in the Rams' brutal loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Garrett obviously wasn't the reason his team lost, but he wasn't able to help much either.
His absence for at least a month, as reported by The Ringer's Tom Pelissero, won't directly affect Seattle, though. The two NFC West rivals aren't scheduled to meet until Week 16 and then again in Week 18. But indirectly, Garrett's injury update could certainly have a bearing on the Seahawks.
Seattle Seahawks fans should be watching the Myles Garrett news closely
Los Angeles already has one loss, and while the team has enough talent to weather any injury storm, and they could also get Aaron Donald back from a two-year retirement before Garrett returns, the Rams losing another game or two is possible. LA's schedule at the beginning of the season is fairly difficult.
In Week 2, LA will host the New York Giants, a winnable game for the Rams. New York might be better than in the last few seasons, but they still aren't expected to be anywhere near terrific.
The three games after the Giants, however, would be difficult even if Garrett were not injured. Los Angeles travels to play the Denver Broncos, stays on the road and goes against the Philadelphia Eagles, and then hosts the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football in Week 5.
The Rams could keep Garrett out in Week 6, too, because Los Angeles plays the poor Arizona Cardinals. LA doesn't need Garrett to beat Arizona.
The Los Angeles Rams could easily be 1-4 by the time Garrett's stint on PUP is done. That might not mean they are out of the playoff picture, but they could be out of the race for the top of the NFC West. That battle might come down to the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, though both teams have suffered their own injuries.
Ultimately, Seattle could be without Sam Darnold for at least most of two games and still have a better record than the Rams do without Myles Garrett by Week 6. The division could be shaping up perfectly for Seattle again.
