NFL analyst puts Seahawks on blast over free agency departures

"Good luck trying to repeat."

If you ask John Schneider, free agency is going more to plan than many on the outside might view it. That's because he's doing it his way, and the way that will best accommodate the Seattle Seahawks down the road. That said, from the outside, free agency has decimated the Seahawks, according to many of those outside voices.

Of Seattle's handful of free agents, three of them left in free agency (Kenneth Walker III, Boye Mafe, Coby Bryant), and more may leave (Riq Woolen). Thankfully, as it pertains to the defense, Josh Jobe was re-signed, along with offensive speedster Rashid Shaheed.

Still, the groanings over the Seahawks' inability to keep more of their free agents is fairly loud already on day 2, and it may get louder depending on how the rest of the week plays out. Given the recent free-agent developments in Seattle, it's fair to assume this removes their Super Bowl repeat chances next year. Well, one former champion-turned-NFL analyst believes it erases them.

NFL analyst Logan Ryan crushes the Seattle Seahawks

No chance at all? It might be a little too soon to outright commit to that belief because the Seahawks had no chance of winning the Super Bowl last offseason, and look at them now? Of course, it would be foolish to ignore the fact that defending their championship, getting back to another, and repeating won't be easy, because it very well might not be.

While the Seahawks were able to retain one major piece of their offense, they lost another. It's their defense that took the greater blow in free agency, and Woolen is still expected to sign elsewhere in the coming days, too.

In light of the free-agent exits the Seahawks have had to witness, it hasn't sat well with many who have critiqued Schneider's game plan, including former Super Bowl champion and now an NFL analyst for CBS, Logan Ryan.

"Good luck trying to repeat, this is the hard part of repeating, everyone wants your roster and your talent," Ryan said. "Your going back without your offensive play caller, who was a huge part when we have to think of Sam Darnold's success, without the Super Bowl MVP running back, your talking about half your d-line rotation is being poached, half your secondary, Tariq Woolen is gone, and those guys have great paydays, why not take that?"

Logan would also take a shot at Schneider and the Seahawks front office for their hand in how free agency has gone.

"But sometimes the front office feels like they're the reasons, 'we don't have to pay them, I can just draft the next ones.'"

Logan might be off base with his critique of Seattle's management; it's hard to imagine Schneider looking to and trusting in the draft to replenish his team right after winning the Super Bowl. That isn't the best recipe for trying to repeat, Schneider knows that. That said, Logan might be right about the Seahawks' chances of repeating only in the sense that it will be a challenging undertaking.

Getting back is never easy for any team. For Seattle, because they've lost a lot in free agency, and possibly more, that does up the difficulty going into next season. That said, the Seahawks still have plenty of defensive firepower intact from last season, and guys who can step up in the absence of others. We saw it happen this way time and time again last season.
