NFL analyst stands with Seahawks fans in latest NFC West projection

Not even the Rams' splashy moves put them over the Seahawks.

The three battles between the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams last season were epic matchups; all close, all exciting, and all with high stakes. The two divisional NFC West faceoffs slated for the upcoming season should be no different.

Had the Rams beaten the Seahawks and gone on to win the Super Bowl, we would be having a very different conversation, given the offseason moves the Rams have made so far, especially on defense. The additions of Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson would further their Super Bowl defense argument.

Alas, the Seahawks were the winners, not the Rams, and it's the former who most believe to still be the better team. If you are still on the fence about who's better, the Seahawks or Rams, going into next season, NFL analyst and writer Trey Wingo recently added his opinion, and the Rams' new players are apparently not enough.

Deservedly so, the Seahawks should be the favorites going into the new season, and they have too many advantages going their way to back that favoritism up. They lost a few players, especially Kenneth Walker III, a key player, but he was quickly replaced by former Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price.

Aside from a few free agent walk-offs, the Seahawks have virtually the same roster returning next season. Then again, so do the Rams, but in their case, their offseason additions outweigh anything they lost. McDuffie is a multi-Super Bowl winner with All-Pros under his belt, and Watson also won multiple championships with McDuffie in Kansas City.

However, according to Ringo, the answer to the question 'who's the team to beat?' is easy. Ringo called out the Rams on their "pizazz" not being enough to dethrone the Seahawks when speaking with Seattle Sports' Bump and Stacy this week on their talk show, and gave his answer.

“I think that honestly, there’s a lot of pizzazz when it comes to the Rams,” Wingo said. “They make a lot of splashy moves every offseason. They have one of the more interesting head coaches who has all those little quirks and things, and he’s a good-looking guy, and he lives in L.A., and he can memorize every play he’s ever had. There’s a little bit of that savant thing with him, right? That’s an easy sell to a lot of people. But Seattle, to me, is still the team to beat – not only in the NFC West, but also in the NFC, period – until someone takes them down.”

Selling the Rams is easy, there's no doubt about it. If the Seahawks aren't the best team in the NFC (or the NFL), it's easily the Rams. Furthermore, should the Rams overcome the Seahawks next season, including in the playoffs, no one should be surprised if the Rams win the Super Bowl. They have everything they need, but so do the Seahawks.

The better team will come down to two factors: quarterback play and defense. No one will argue Sam Darnold over Matthew Stafford, but if Darnold can play better than Stafford when it matters most, that would be an advantage for the Seahawks. As for the defenses, the Seahawks are better, but the Rams have gotten better.

At the end of the day, whichever team is left standing gets the glory. As for who the team to beat before that moment is, who are the defending champions, again?
