There are some NFL analysts who don't like Sam Darnold as the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks in 2025. Some did not care for Geno Smith before that. And several did not like Russell Wilson.
But one analyst doesn't like any of them, especially for this upcoming season.
Aidan Ebrahimi of RotoBaller recently posted an article about six quarterbacks who could lose their starting jobs in 2025, and as you can guess, Darnold, Smith, and Wilson make up three of the six. This seems like a stretch in at least one case, if not two.
One NFL analyst has a strange take on the Seattle Seahawks' quarterbacks since 2012
The easiest one to agree with is Wilson. He is on his fourth team in five seasons, and his third team in three years. He joined a bad New York Giants team this offseason, and NY also signed veteran quarterback Jameis Winston, and then drafted Jaxson Dart in the first round.
Wilson might play decently, but New York is unlikely to win many games, and that is going to make Wilson look worse. New York fans are not the most patient and might call for Wilson's replacement quickly. That could be Winston, or maybe the Giants throw Dart to the proverbial wolves and let him sink.
As for Darnold, he is a lot more certain to keep his job throughout the season. Though the Seahawks brought back quarterback Drew Lock and took Jalen Milroe in the third round, head coach Mike Macdonald has made clear the QB1 spot belongs to Darnold.
Lock is a decent veteran, but has never shown he can be a long-term starter. Milroe is still too raw to be QB1.
That didn't stop Ebrahimi from writing, "If the team is sitting around .500 with no chance at making the playoffs near the end of the season, Milroe could get some starts and establish himself as the Seahawks' QB of the future."
To be fair, he might only be slightly wrong on that take. If the team is around .500, Darnold is still going to be the starter. If he does get replaced for whatever reason, Lock is more likely to replace him this season.
Ebrahimi's opinion that Geno Smith could be replaced is much more of a stretch. First, Smith is a good quarterback who is playing for his former head coach with the Seahawks, Pete Carroll, and the quarterback and coach trust one another. Smith also has no obvious heir to replace him.
Even more baffling is this sentence: "The Raiders don't have any outstanding QBs, but Aidan O'Connell isn't too far off Smith's standard and is eight years younger."
Aidan O'Connell is nowhere near the quarterback that Geno Smith is. There is no factual evidence to support that. Or maybe, Ebrahim simply hates the Seahawks and any quarterback that has started much for Seattle since 2012. That is the only reason to include Geno Smith and Sam Darnold on his list.
