The reigning Super Bowl champions have some decisions to make in the offseason. According to Over The Cap, they will have $61.87 million in available cap space, and while that's more than enough, they won't be able to keep everybody in town.
That will likely be the case with Rashid Shaheed. The Seahawks acquired him midseason to get him back together with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Now, with Kubiak taking the Las Vegas Raiders' head coaching position, it wouldn't be shocking to watch him take his talents to Sin City.
While not featured as often in the passing game, Shaheed's acceleration and speed made him a big play waiting to happen on every dropback. He was also a valuable contributor as a returner. Considering that, let's take a look at three somewhat similar options the Seahawks could pursue in free agency to replace him.
3 options the Seattle Seahawks should explore to replace Rashid Shaheed
3. Skyy Moore
Once a promising prospect, Skyy Moore never found his footing with the Kansas City Chiefs. The former second-round pick made his way to the San Francisco 49ers and finally broke out as an impressive special teams player. He was clocked at 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash, and he showed his burners with a 98-yard return for a score with the Niners.
His craftiness and speed make him a lite version of Shaheed, bringing similar traits to the table. Spotrac projects his market value at just $1.4 million, and at just 25 years old, he might be worth taking a chance on. He may not be their only signing to replace Shaheed, but they can afford to bring him in and continue developing him.
2. Tyquan Thornton
Despite being left behind in the Kansas City Chiefs' pecking order, Tyquan Thornton still managed to put up 438 yards and three touchdowns on just 19 receptions. He averaged a whopping 23.1 yards per catch and was Patrick Mahomes' most reliable big-play threat since Tyreek Hill was traded to the Dolphins.
Thornton will probably join a team that can give him more opportunities as the explosive pass catcher he is. He ran an official 4.28-second 40-yard dash and is one of the fastest players in the game, so he'd be a seamless replacement for the Seahawks' speedster. He's another low-cost option at just $2.8 million a year.
1. Alec Pierce
Money shouldn't be an issue for GM John Schneider this offseason. So, if the Seahawks want to make a big splash and add another star opposite Jaxon Smith-Njigba, they should probably go after Alec Pierce. He's one of the top three free agent wide receivers this year, and while the Indianapolis Colts can tag him, they will probably look to save cash for Daniel Jones.
Pierce only needed 47 receptions to log 1,003 receiving yards and six touchdowns, averaging an explosive 21.1 yards per catch. He's much faster than the average 6-foot-3 physical specimen, and his big frame makes him a perennial mismatch in the red zone. He'll probably get north of $20 million a year in free agency, but the Seahawks have enough cash to spare.
