The 2024 NFL scouting combine gets underway this week. This is a chance for football players to participate in the strangest interview process they will ever be involved in. Plus, the Seattle Seahawks will also be involved.

The combine gives Seattle general manager John Schneider a chance to interview players one-on-one and get a feel for the psyche. If they do not seem like the right mental fit for Seattle, the Seahawks will move on. Let's hope, though, that Seattle doesn't decide the equivalent of Malik McDowell, whoever they may be, actually is a good interview and Seattle makes the mistake of taking that player.

This is an event where players can show off how fast they can run and how high they can jump. For the Seahawks and other teams, it's a good time to mix and mingle and meet with agents of free agents. Oh, and also watch some draft prospects. Here is what you need to know.

When do the Seattle Seahawks speak?

As you will see below (no, don't skip ahead), almost all of the general managers and any coaches involved will speak to the media on Tuesday, February 27. Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider is expected to speak to the media and non-answer questions about the future of the team and any injury concerns at 9:45 am PT. Likely, this short question and answer will be found live on Seattle Sports 710 AM and on the NFL Network.

Head coach Mike Macdonald was left at home in Seattle. He will not be at the NFL combine.

When do the on-field drills take place?

While watching your favorite college player do a workout of the kind that will almost never take place in an NFL game, you can cheer them on while watching on your television or the interwebs. But when might your favorite collegian participate? The answer to that is below.

  • Thursday, February 29 (12 pm PT) - Defensive Linemen, linebackers
  • Friday, March 1 (12 pm PT) - Defensive backs, tight ends
  • Saturday, March 2 (10 am PT) - Quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs
  • Sunday, March 3 (10 am PT) - Offensive linemen

What do the drills consist of?

Let's say you are interviewing for a job and to get said job the people doing the interviewing want you to get 25 bench press reps of 250 pounds or more. That would be ridiculous if you are looking for an office job (I assume). But not if you are an NFL player. Here is what you would need to do.

  • 40-yard dash
  • Bench press of 225 pounds
  • Vertical jump
  • Broad jump
  • 20-yard shuttle
  • Three-cone drill
  • 60-yard shuttle

When will the media potentially interview my favorite college player?

That question depends on what position your favorite player plays. If you really love a punter, for instance (Iowa, I see you!), then that would be the last day of the combine the media gets to talk to punters. Here are when other positions will speak publicly.

  • Tuesday, February 27- Select general managers and head coaches
  • Wednesday, February 28 - Defensive line and linebackers
  • Thursday, February 29 - Defensive backs and tight ends
  • Friday, March 1 - Quarterbacks, wide receivers, and running backs
  • Saturday, March 2 - Offensive line and kickers and punters

How can one watch the 2024 NFL combine?

The combine can be seen live on the NFL Network with a cable subscription. You can also stream the event with an NFL+ subscription. In other words, you must have a subscription to watch or borrow a friend's password to their NFL+ account.
