Seattle Seahawks right tackle George Fant injured his knee in the first half in Week 1 and did not return to the game. The team has not yet announced how long Fant might be out because they likely do not know. There is a chance that Fant does not miss any time, but after seeing his injury against the Denver Broncos, he will probably miss some time.

Fant was already expected to be a backup when he was signed as a free agent this offseason. Abraham Lucas should be the starter but Lucas is still trying to come back from offseason knee surgery. He missed most of last season with his knee problem. He cannot be counted on to play consistently even when he does return, whenever that happens to be.

Stone Forsythe picked up the reps that Fant couldn't get after being hurt and Forsythe allowed a sack and two total pressures in 26 pass-block reps. That isn't completely awful, but that also does not give Seattle much hope that Forsythe should start for several games in a row.

Seattle Seahawks should reach out to Duane Brown about being a right tackle option

Backing up Forsythe is rookie Michael Jerrell who is an extremely raw prospect who likely is not ready to play yet. 12s have to hope that Jerrell doesn't play yet as if he is terrible then that could affect his confidence.

One free agent that Seattle should think of asking back is Duane Brown. Brown has exclusively played left tackle in his career, and he certainly would not be a long-term option at right tackle, but flipping from one side of the line to the other is not a new concept. Plus, with all the years Brown has spent in the league, he can likely make the transition with ease.

The issues would be how healthy he currently is and if he wants to play. He wasn't signed anywhere this offseason and only appeared in five games for the New York Jets last season. He wasn't good, but that might have been because he was dealing with injuries.

Money should not be an issue. The Seahawks currently have about $13 million in cap room. Brown would not need to be signed for anything close to that much so he is affordable. Again, he would not need to be a long-term option, but he would be great as a fill-in for as long as needed should Fant and Lucas miss a lot of time.
