Geno Smith connection with DK Metcalf changes outlook for Seahawks vs Dolphins
By Luke Allen
One play after a hideous drive which resulted in an interception off the hands of Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet, the Seahawks offense bounced back in a big way.
After giving up a short field goal following the interception in which the Miami Dolphins cut the lead to seven late in the first quarter, the Seahawks' offense needed to get back on track. Enter wide receiver DK Metcalf. On the first play of the drive, Geno sent running back Kenny McIntosh motioning left pre-snap and took the snap. Geno took his three-step drop and sat perfectly comfortably in the pocket for about three seconds before letting it rip.
DK Metcalf was waiting wide open -- with about five yards of separation -- and caught the ball fifty yards downfield. He was so far downfield that he needed to stop and wait for Smith's deep ball. After catching it, Metcalf outraced Miami safety Jevon Holland to cap off a one-play, 71-yard touchdown drive to give Seattle a 17-3 lead as time expired in the first quarter.

It was Metcalf's second big catch on the day as his receiving total jumped to 93 yards on two catches and one touchdown. For Smith, it was another big play to add to his hot start. As of this writing, Smith is 9 for 11 for 158 yards passing, with one touchdown and a one-tipped interception.
Aside from the one disgusting drive derailed by the offensive "pass interference" that resulted in an interception, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb's offense seems to be humming in this Week 3 matchup.
Still, the Seahawks' defense would have to continue to shut down the Dolphins in the second half. The offense needs some help.
