NFL preseason games can be hit and miss with which star players are going to get reps and which are not. In most cases, there is no real need for the players to play. The most valuable snaps they get are in practice ahead of Week 1 of the regular season.

The Seattle Seahawks play the Tennessee Titans in preseason Week 2 and there is even less reason for the starters on either team to play. That is because Seattle and Tennessee held two joint practices in the days leading up to the preseason game when starters played starters in full-contact drills. Seattle was the better - and more physical - team during the practices.

This implies - and head coach Mike Macdonald has stated - that very few of Seattle's presumed starters for this season will play in preseason Week 2. This will give those players battling for backup spots to prove to the coaching staff what they are capable of. The game should be a fun watch for 12s as well because there will be no players who will simply be going through the motions.

Geno Smith and DK Metcalf will not play when the Seahawks take on the Titans in preseason Week 2

Unfortunately, Geno Smith and DK Metcalf will not be participating in the glorified scrimmage. They looked extremely sharp in the joint practices and risking either of them to further, and unnecessary, injury before real games begin would be foolish. There is a chance both play in preseason Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns, but even that is unlikely.

Perhaps the most shocking part of the preseason so far is that Macdonald played his defensive starters in preseason Week 1 for the first two series. The group looked great. The unit might not look quite as great versus the Titans because of the non-starter situation.

Still, the preseason game is one more step to the beginning of the real games. We will definitely get to see Geno Smith and DK Metcalf then but just don't count on seeing them anywhere but on the sidelines against Tennessee on Saturday.
