5 QBs who could be Seahawks Week 1 starter in 2024 with Geno Smith struggling

Seattle could look to sign a veteran as a bridge to the team's next long-term quarterback or they could find a QB in the 2024 NFL draft that would start immediately.

1. Washington QB Michael Penix, Jr.

This is the quarterback that many 12s want, right? I mean, we get to see him play in Seattle already so him simply moving from Montlake to Lumen Field would be easy. But while Penix has been fantastic since transferring from Indiana to Washington before the 2022 season, he does have several concerns.

One is his injury history while with the Hoosiers. He seemed to injure nearly every part of his body with Indiana. Penix has been healthy since he came to Washington so maybe he got hurt so much simply because the Hoosiers offensive line was bad and he got hit too much. Still, in the NFL Penix is going to get hit more than he does currently with the Huskies so can he hold up to the punishment?

Penix is also left-handed. That's not a terrible thing for a human being (I am left-handed myself), but most NFL teams are built around right-handed quarterbacks so they make sure their left tackles are great and their right tackles are good, of course, but not the focus of building the line. The good thing with the Seahawks is that right tackle Abraham Lucas is excellent when healthy.

Lastly, Penix is ancient for a quarterback about to be taken in an NFL draft. He will be 24 years old just after the 2024 draft. But for Seattle that isn't a huge problem because he would start right away and Penix would have a built-in receiving corps that includes DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Watching Penix throw his electric passes to that group would be fun.
