Raheem Morris should get a shot to be Seahawks next head coach
Raheem Morris just interviewed for the Seahawks head coaching job this week.
One of the many coaches the Seattle Seahawks are considering for the next head coach of the team is Rams' defensive coordinator Raheem Morris. In his end-of-the-year press conference, Rams general manager Les Snead spoke glowingly of Morris and said he deserves a chance to be an NFL head coach again.
Morris has been coaching for a long time in both college and the NFL. With over 20 years of his coaching career spent in the NFL. In his most recent stop in LA as Rams defensive coordinator from 2021-2023, Morris helped the Rams to a Super Bowl in 2021.
Though offensive-minded coaches have been the hiring trend in the NFL, defensive coaches still have been able to find success in the NFL as well. Look at what former 49ers defensive coordinator Demeco Ryans has done as the head coach of the Texans. Ryans has led the Texans to a seven-win improvement in 2023 and a division title.

Showing that defensive-minded coaches can still make good head coaches in today's NFL. Raheem Morris has a similar profile to Demeco Ryans and was a head coach in the NFL before. Morris never really had great talent under the teams he coached. His best quarterback as a head coach was Matt Ryan in 2020, at the twilight of Ryan's career.
The question of who the Seahawks' next head coach should be just as much about the culture the coach can create, as is their ability to understand Xs and Os. While Raheem Morris has not been successful in his three and a half seasons as a head coach in the NFL (he has a 21-38 record in that time), does not mean he cannot be a good leader.
Seattle needs a coach with NFL experience and someone their young players can respect. Raheem Morris just spent most of the 2023 season working with younger players on the defensive side of the ball in LA. Helping the Rams get back to the playoffs even though they were not expected to.
Picking Morris as the next head coach of the Seahawks is worth considering. He certainly has plenty of NFL coaching experience and just needs to find the right opportunity for him to be a successful NFL head coach. Raheem Morris would bring experience to the head coaching position in Seattle and may be the right coach for this team at this moment.
