The Seahawks' 2023 draft shows they are all in on QB Geno Smith right now. Even though Pete Carroll just recently said after the draft Seattle was interested in Florida QB Anthony Richardson it is still uncertain that the ‘Hawks would have taken him. Since Richardson was taken one pick before the Seahawks at fourth overall by the Indianapolis Colts no one will know if the ‘Hawks would have selected him. However, the Seahawks also passed on quarterbacks who were available in later rounds such as Will Levis, Hendon Hooker, and Jake Haener.

Seattle also drafted two IOL Anthony Bradford and Olusegun Oluwatimi, WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, plus running backs Zach Charbonnet and Kenny McIntosh surrounding QB Geno Smith with talent. These moves signify the Seahawks are willing to bet on Geno Smith and give him the tools necessary to succeed. Adding a receiver and two running backs while providing him protection for the future, will only help Geno build on a tremendous 2022 season in which he made the pro bowl.

This decision to bet on Geno Smith should come as no surprise to Seahawks fans since John Schneider signed Geno Smith to a three-year $75 million contract extension this off-season. Considering Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson each received contract extensions of over $255 million, the Seahawks' deal with Geno Smith looks even better. Geno can also earn more money from incentives, though.

Seahawks appear to trust in Geno Smith and that is right and good

If Geno reaches statistical milestones each year, he can do much better than the base of his contract. He can make $2 million a year more if he produces numbers that kick in the incentives. This includes passing yards of over 4,282, over 30 passing touchdowns, a completion percentage of over 69.8, a passer rating of 100.9 or better, or nine or more wins, and an opportunity to earn $5 million a year if hits each of these stats in a single season.

The Seahawks decision to go all in on Geno Smith gives him the opportunity to take the position and run with it. Geno will have the chance to strengthen his resume and prove he belongs among the top QBs in the NFL by helping lead the Seahawks to new heights.
