The Seahawks shit the Lions down on their first drive, but didn't fare so well on Detroit's second series. David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs made the Hawks pay on a 92-yard march.

We knew coming into tonight's game that the Seahawks would have a tough time handling the Lion's offense. With so many defensive stars out, Seattle would have its hands full keeping Detroit off the scoreboard. In the early going, that nightmare became all too true.

The Lions had little trouble moving the ball on the ground against the depleted Hawks defensive line. David Montgomery was the main hammer for Detroit. He rolled for 39 of the Lions 92 yards on the drive, while Gibbs had a big 20-yard run. The Seahawks had no answers on the drive.

The Seattle Seahawks could not stop the Lions run game in the first period

Whether or not this turns into a theme for the entire game, we'll just have to see how it all plays out. The Hawks were able to move the ball, but a fumble gave the ball back to the Lions at the Seattle 14-yard line. The Seahawks weren't able to stop the Lions on that short drive again and fell behind, 14-0.

Williams certainly isn't the only top Hawks defender missing the game. Edge rushers Boye Mafe and Uchenna Nwosu were both listed as inactive, along with defensive lineman Byron Murphy III. Linebacker Jerome Baker also was out for the game. That is an awful lot of defensive gaps to fill for the Hawks.

Into the second period, things don't look much better for Seattle. Detroit took a 21-7 lead with 5:11 left in the half. To this point, Gibbs has 41 yards and two touchdowns, while Montgomery has 42 yards and one score. Jared Goff has 82 yards through the air as well. The Hawks will need to create some turnovers to get back into this game.
