While the 2023 NFL draft is next week, the Seattle Seahawks also have some news when it comes to injury updates for two key defensive players currently on the roster. Safety Jamal Adams and linebacker Jordyn Brooks are working their way back from season-ending injuries in 2022. Now we have some idea when they could return.

In fact, when it comes to Brooks, the injury update is a bit shocking. Head coach Pete Carroll spoke with reporters on Wednesday at the VMAC and said Brooks was "thinking" he might be ready at some point in training camp. Brooks suffered a torn ACL in Week 17 last season so thinking he could be back before the beginning of the 2023 season seems extremely optimistic.

The reasonable hope would be that Brooks returns at some point in the middle of the season and works his way back into the rotation. He must make sure his leg is ready. He is a player who relies on his speed to shut down plays and one has to believe that his speed will still be lessened due to the ACL injury, at least until a full year goes by.

Injury updates for two key Seahawks defenders

As far as Jamal Adams goes, he still seems to have a likely potential return of around the summer. But the Seahawks are also likely to be very conservative with how quickly Adams returns even when he is ready to practice. Adams, unfortunately, seems to be made of glass and gets injured more and more quickly with every passing season.

In 2022, he was, of course, hurt in Week 1 so by Week 1 of 2023 an entire calendar year would have gone by. There is no reason to think Adams shouldn't be ready by September. But two things first. One, how much does the team trust that he won't be hurt again (hence, the signing of safety Julian Love this offseason)? And two, how soon will Adams actually be hurt because there seems to be no way to avoid losing him for several games a season at this point?
