Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith vs. Seattle's secondary

Breaking news: Geno Smith is going to be the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks in 2023. OK, that is clearly a joke. But even though we know Smith is going to start in 2023, at least, that doesn't mean we can't learn something about Smith in training camp. More importantly, Smith throwing passes against a revamped and, in some spots, young secondary is going to give us a great idea of how good the secondary can actually be in 2023.

If Smith struggles going up against Tariq Woolen, Witherspoon, Quandre Diggs, and the others, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I mean, OK. If Smith is not good at all that could say more about Smith than it does about the secondary, but I don't expect that to happen. I think Smith will be solid once the real games begin.

Side note, it will also be interesting to see more of Jaxon Smith-Njigba going up against Devon Witherspoon. Plus, we must see if Tariq Woolen, who injured his knee in minicamp, is really ready to play quality snaps. Let's assume he is and the world is OK. If he isn't, that will show up when Smith is throwing passes to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett one-on-one against Woolen.

Lastly, it's good to go into Seahawks training camp with a lot fewer worries than in 2022. Many still thought Drew Lock should be the starting QB early in the 2022 season, but Smith eased those concerns. Now let's just hope I didn't jinx anything and all of the above players have good training camps with even better play in the regular season and beyond.
