Seahawks take a big leap in latest FanSided NFL power rankings

Before the season began, FanSided did not have too much faith in the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks are beginning to change some minds. Sure, the team should have been expected to win their first two games, but there was no guarantee of that. Plus, the New England Patriots, Seattle's Week 2 opponent, seem better than expected. The Denver Broncos, who Seattle opened the season with, are just atrocious offensively.

In FanSided's (12th Man Rising's mothership) preseason NFL power rankings, the Seahawks were listed at number 19. The write-up included wording that there was hope Seattle would be better under new head coach Mike Macdonald and new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, but the NFC West was seen as so tough that Seattle's ceiling might be limited.

Things have changed. The Los Angeles Rams have started 0-2 and are losing many players to injury. LA also plays the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 so there is a good chance the Rams begin 0-3.

Seahawks move up six spots in FanSided's latest NFL power rankings

The 49ers are not without issues, though. They missed running back Christian McCaffrey in Week 2 and surprisingly lost to the Minnesota Vikings. The team just doesn't seem the same without McCaffrey.

The Arizona Cardinals looked quite good in Week 2 against the Rams, but they lost their season opener. Only the Seahawks are still undefeated after the first two weeks of the 2024 season.

Seattle has now jumped from 19 to number eight, just two spots out of the teams grouped together in Tier 1. Seattle has a chance to move up further after Week 3 because Seattle will face a diminished Miami Dolphins team. Miami will be missing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

The Dolphins still have a number of weapons, of course, but Tagovailoa's ability to throw incredibly accurately deep down the field opens up what Miami can do. In Tagovailoa's place will be Skylar Thompson. Thompson started two games for Miami in 2022 and played in seven. In those games, he had one touchdown pass but three interceptions.

Most likely, Miami will use a shorter passing game and hope that receivers Tyreke Hill and Jaylen Waddle can shake free for explosive plays. The Seahawks should be able to limit them, though, and get their third win of the season. That should propel Seattle further up FanSided's power rankings ahead of Week 4.
