The Seattle Seahawks need to bring wide receiver Tyler Lockett back. Lockett deserves that, but only if he signs a one-day deal to retire as a member of the Seattle organization. He spent his entire career with the team until 2025, and he was one of the best wide receivers (and best human beings) in Seahawks history.
He is no longer a productive receiver in the NFL, though. After being released by Seattle in the 2025 offseason, Lockett was signed by the Tennessee Titans. The hope was that he could help rookie quarterback Cam Ward adapt to the league. He might have been in the locker room, but he didn't help on the field.
Lockett asked for, and was granted, his release from the Titans midway through the season, and he unsurprisingly reunited with Pete Carroll with the Las Vegas Raiders soon thereafter. The hope from both sides was that Lockett would be rejuvenated catching passes from Geno Smith, who was his quarterback for the past three seasons with the Seahawks, too.
Tyler Lockett should retire with the Seattle Seahawks
In the first few games, things trended better. In the past few games, Lockett has unfortunately returned to his late-career form.
In Weeks 15 through 17, Lockett caught five passes for just 25 yards. One was for a touchdown, but it was the receiver's first TD of the season. There is a very good chance that the touchdown was the last of Lockett's excellent career.
Week 18 might be his final game as well. Very likely, few teams are going to be willing to pay much for Tyler Lockett to play for them. He is a 33-year-old wideout who isn't big enough to fight off would-be tacklers, and his elite quickness has faded for a long time.

One might have wondered why the Raiders, a team that has been bad since the beginning of the season, took a chance on him. Clearly, it was because of Pete Carroll, but Carroll could be on the verge of being one-and-done in Las Vegas as his team is 2-14 with one game remaining.
If Carroll is no longer with the Las Vegas Raiders, many of the former Seattle Seahawks currently on their roster might go, too. That includes Tyler Lockett, of course, but perhaps Geno Smith as well. The team currently holds the top pick in the 2026 NFL draft, and could choose a QB to replace Smith.
Ideally, once Lockett hits free agency in the coming offseason, he will sign the one-day deal with the Seahawks. He will always be remembered well by 12s, and going out with Seattle would be the perfect ending.
