Pay him, Mr. Schneider.

What a season it was for one of the NFL's fastest men on any given Sunday, Rashid Shaheed. The former New Orleans Saints speedster was traded mid-season to the Seattle Seahawks in an attempt to strengthen Sam Darnold's weapons and add a boost to an offense that was already humming.

However, upon Shaheed's arrival, his expected wide receiver role became something else entirely. While Shaheed was still used in the Seahawks' passing attack, it was surprisingly limited. Instead, Shaheed was used largely for special teams, and boy, did he excel quickly there.

Shaheed's impact in the return game did a lot of good for the Seahawks down the stretch, especially once the playoffs began, and the mid-season trade was paying off perfectly. That said, Shaheed enters this offseason as a free agent, but that doesn't mean a return to Seattle can't happen, which puts the pressure on GM John Schneider to show the love Shaheed deserves.

Seahawks' John Schneider should have Rashid Shaheed at the top of his offseason target list

The Seahawks have the fifth-most salary cap space in the league this offseason at $74 million, which leaves Schneider a lot of work to do when it comes to dishing out new deals. It's only a matter of who fits the Seahawks future, and who doesn't decide to sign elsewhere.

Kenneth Walker III has a good chance at walking away from the Seahawks this summer because if it isn't Schneider, some other GM is going to offer the Super Bowl MVP a lot of money for his services. If any player has a higher chance of leaving Seattle, it's Walker.

Shaheed, who could also leave, experienced such a great trip with the Seahawks. He was a catalyst in two of Seattle's playoff games, but he really showed how threatening he can be as a returner, which should make Schneider feel obligated to throw a lucrative offer Shaheed's way.

Shaheed was instrumental in helping create a well-balanced Seahawks team, from special teams to offense to defense. The Seahawks could really benefit from a return to Seattle in Shaheed's case, not only as one of the league's most dangerous returners, but also as a solid No. 3 receiver behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp.

Shaheed wasn't able to have a game-busting play in the Super Bowl (he had two catches for 27 yards), but he did put himself in the NFL record books with six fair catches. Imagine if New England had let him return anything.

Trading for Shaheed was arguably Schneider's best mid-season move during his tenure in Seattle. Now, he should follow that up by giving Shaheed a reason to stay in the form of a new deal.
