The Seattle Seahawks are about to head into their first preseason game of 2025, and that should mean one thing for certain: 12s are going to see a lot of quarterback Jalen Milroe. Seattle will sit starter Sam Darnold, backup Drew Lock won't play much, so the offense belongs to QB3.
Milroe should be a preseason star, too. He has more raw athletic ability than most other human beings to have ever thrown a football. As preseason defenses do no scheming or game-planning, Milroe should be able to use his physical prowess to create a bunch of splashy plays.
That is the hope anyway. But Milroe was a third-round draft pick for a reason. He has a cannon for an arm and can speed past NFL defensive backs, but he struggles with decision-making and fundamentals. He is the opposite of another Seahawks third-round choice, Russell Wilson.
Seattle Seahawks legend Russell Wilson has some kind words for rookie Jalen Milroe
Wilson, of course, became the best quarterback in franchise history. The way he left will always cripple how he is viewed by 12s, but he brought a lot of great memories, too. But Wilson's apparent flaw coming into the league was that he was short. He was already mentally ready to be QB1.
Wilson, of course, is now long-gone from the Seahawks, and he is on his third team in three years. He will always be attached to Seattle, though, due to his high-level success. This is likely how, in a manufactured moment created by Fanatics, Russell Wilson was able to dispense some positivity toward Jalen Milroe, and give the rookie a gift, too.
Wilson wrote on the Seahawks No. 3 jersey, "Jalen! You are going to be a star in NFL! You will love Seattle. Go be great!"
Had Wilson chosen to do this on his own, it would have been weird. Though, to be fair, his doing such a thing would not be completely out of character. Milroe has previously said he was a fan of the former Seattle starter, so it all makes sense. At least, Fanatics was behind the gift.

But Wilson is also correct, and Seattle Seahawks fans likely agree with what he wrote. Jalen Milroe will love Seattle. The city and culture are welcoming and appreciative of someone who works hard but doesn't try to build himself up too much. This was where Russell Wilson eventually erred.
The hope, too, is that Jalen Milroe will become a star. He has the physical tools to be great, and he has the work ethic to try to get there. Maybe he will find a way to follow in the same early career path that Wilson had with the Seahawks.
