Somewhat surprisingly, the Los Angeles Chargers have yet to win a game in four tries this season. The defeat to the Seattle Seahawks sent them into a 0-4 hole, so they might not be particularly fond of Mike Macdonald's team right now.
However, business is business, and they should listen if John Schneider picks up the phone with an enticing offer. Starting the season 0-4 all but dooms your playoff chances, and they have multiple potential trade candidates.
That's especially the case with Khalil Mack, and the Seahawks should definitely be interested if he's available for a trade. It might take an early Day 3 or a late Day 2 selection, given the competition, but that would be worth it.
The Seattle Seahawks should go all-in to get Khalil Mack
The Seahawks' pass rush is already stellar, but even the best things can be improved. They don't need to trade for Mack, but is there a team he hasn't made significantly better? He still has plenty left in the tank.
Granted, the Seahawks don't have a fourth-round pick, and perhaps giving up a third-rounder would be too steep for him. That said, he's a future Hall of Famer, and he already has three sacks, 14 tackles, five tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, and 14 total pressures in four games.
Mack is looking to ride into the sunset with a contending team, so maybe he can pull a DeMarcus Lawrence and immediately win a ring in Seattle. Also, the Seahawks would only be on the hook for roughly $6 million for the remainder of the season, a more than reasonable price for a player of his caliber.
Mike Macdonald and defensive coordinator Aden Durde have put together a complex and sophisticated pass-rushing unit and scheme. They have a surplus of talent, so again, Mack would be more of a luxury add than a necessity.
Then again, he's someone who can contribute to the run and drop back into coverage with the same efficiency and prowess with which he rushes the quarterback. He's gotten nearly 40 sacks since joining the Chargers for what was supposed to be his decline years.
Maybe, if the Seahawks don't want to give up that much in a highly demanded draft class, they can send one of the two seventh-rounders they have in 2027 and a fourth-round pick in 2028. The Chargers should be motivated to move his expiring deal, but again, multiple teams will certainly come knocking.
At this point, the Seahawks' best bet will be that the Chargers want to do right by their superstar defender and agree to send him to a contender. The Seahawks are not a conference rival and won't have to play them again this season, so Seattle would make sense as a harmless destination.
Everyone raved about the Los Angeles Rams adding Trent McDuffie, Myles Garrett, and Aaron Donald, and some fans lamented that the Seahawks didn't go after Maxx Crosby. Now, they have a perfect opportunity to make a statement of their own with one of the best pass rushers of his generation, and they must seize it.
