The Seattle Seahawks made a quarterback decision this offseason, trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders and signing Sam Darnold. Even with Darnold coming to town, no one was going to be surprised if the Seahawks decided to take a quarterback early on in the draft and that's exactly what they did.
With the 92nd pick in the third round, the Seahawks nabbed Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. Adding Milroe is fun for Seahawk fans but to make things even more fun? This was the pick the Seahawks got in the Smith deal, so they replaced him with the pick they acquired from the Raiders.
Seahawks flip Geno Smith trade pick into possible QB of the future
Milroe is a solid pick here and the good news is that having Darnold already on the roster means that he doesn't have to be rushed into action. Seattle can lean on Darnold for at least the 2025 season and then a decision can be made down the road.
The Seahawks might have seemed to be in a rebuilding mode during the offseason but they've nailed this draft so far and this Milroe pick is another example of that. They needed help on the interior offensive line, so in the first round, they added North Dakota State's Grey Zabel.
In the second round, Nick Emmanwori joined the Seahawks secondary, giving Mike Macdonald a scary weapon on defense. Now, Milroe joins the quarterback room and has a chance to become the franchise signal-caller in Seattle.
As of this writing, the Seahawks have four quarterbacks on the roster now that Milroe is coming to Seattle. The other three are Darnold, Sam Howell, and Jaren Hall. It does feel as though Howell could be traded due to the depth Seattle has at the position.
The Seahawks made a decision to move on from Geno Smith and many questioned what would be next for them. Well, they used that pick on a replacement for Smith and we'll have to see if it pans out for them.
