The Seattle Seahawks will have to sit players for Week 2, of course. No team can dress more than 46 players (OK, 47 if you count the third-string QB who can only enter a game if the first two quarterbacks get hurt), so some healthy players get scratched. In the case of right guard Anthony Bradford, however, he isn't healthy.
Bradford is dealing with a knee issue and was ruled out ahead of Seattle's Week 2 showdown against the Arizona Cardinals. In his place will be Christian Haynes, himself an underwhelming player so far in his career. Still, Haynes could reshape his future with a great showing in the desert.
Should Haynes play exceedingly well and Bradford miss more than one game, Haynes could make a case that he should become the long-term starter for the Seahawks at his position. If he fails, he may open the door for rookie Beau Stephens to make his mark.
Seattle Seahawks inactives list gives Christian Haynes a chance to shine in Week 2
Bradford is in the last season of his contract, and hasn't been good enough to truly earn a new deal beyond 2026. Of course, if Haynes is worse and Stephens is too (should he play), the team could look to re-sign Bradford because even in his overall mediocrity, there is some safety in knowing what the team will get.
What unfolds for Haynes in Week 2 could be just as meaningful as whether the Seattle Seahawks win or lose. His future (and he has another year left on his contract beyond this one) could change his financial situation for the rest of his life. No pressure.
Also previously ruled out ahead of Week 2 were quarterback Sam Darnold (glute) and safety Ty Okada (hamstring). Darnold might return in a week or two, and Drew Lock will play in his stead. Okada has no timeline for his return and will temporarily be replaced by Rodney Thomas.
Defensive back Nick Emmanwori was listed as questionable on the final injury report, but unlikely to be active. He had ankle surgery in July and only started practicing recently. He could be a week or two away from playing in a full game.
Except for the healthy scratches on the inactive list, everyone else is good to go. Let's hope the team doesn't suffer any more early-season injuries. The Seattle Seahawks could repeat as Super Bowl champions, but they also can't afford to lose more key players.
Seattle Seahawks inactives for Week 2 vs. the Cardinals:
- Quarterback Sam Darnold
- Safety Ty Okada
- Right guard Anthony Bradford
- Linebacker Connor O'Toole
- Wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr.
- Defensive end Mike Morris
The above list has been updated to reflect the true inactives list for Week 2.
