Seahawks are in perfect position to sign a free agency gamble there for the taking

The Seattle Seahawks have taken a lot of hits in free agency this offseason, but that’s usually the cost of business for winning a Super Bowl. Fortunately, Seattle is still in great shape and has a ton of opportunities to continue building its roster before next season. Those opportunities include taking a chance on a polarizing free agent who is still looking for a new team.

That player is veteran cornerback Trevon Diggs. A back-to-back Pro Bowler in 2021 and 2022, Diggs went from being one of the best corners in the league to a defensive back that teams don’t seem eager to sign.

However, the corner will only be 28 years old during next season, and could still have some good football left in him. Seattle could afford to see if that’s the case or not.

Seattle Seahawks could explore signing veteran cornerback Trevon Diggs

Seattle isn’t really in need of starting corners, returning Devon Witherspoon, Josh Jobe, and Nick Emmanwori at nickel. However, after Riq Woolen moved on to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, the Seahawks need to add more depth to the cornerback room. Diggs is a low-risk, high-reward option who could fill that depth.

The veteran corner was always somewhat of a boom-or-bust defender, even when he led the league with 11 interceptions in 2021. However, he has shown the ability to play productive football in this league, and since he’s still under 30, that can’t be overlooked. It is fair to point out that there are a lot of questions about Diggs’ health and performance, though.

In the last three seasons, the cornerback has only played in 22 games. In 2025, he appeared in nine games, and 11 in 2024. However, when he was on the field, he wasn’t producing like the corner he once was. This past season, he posted just 27 tackles and zero pass deflections, while giving up 18 completions on 24 targets for 288 yards and four touchdowns.

Considering that production, a possible signing of Diggs won’t move the needle. However, if he’s healthy, his play could move back up a couple of notches, and the Seahawks would benefit.
