No one should want wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. He is a terrible employee. If he worked a normal job and was so outspokenly negative about it, he would be fired. This is why his relationship with the San Francisco 49ers should be hilarious for Seattle Seahawks fans.
San Fran could just release the wideout, who hasn't played since 2024, and due to an injury, only played seven games that year. Now, it seems, he would rather play for the Washington Commanders, especially after Aiyuk posted, "Go Commanders! Go Commanders! Go Commanders! Raise Hail! Take Command!" on his Instagram page recently.
Maybe he is just trying to force his way out of playing for the 49ers, or perhaps he actually does want to play for the Commanders. The assumption is that he should be healthy enough to play somewhere. If the 49ers don't trade him or release him, Aiyuk might find a different way of not playing.
Seattle Seahawks are likely having a good chuckle over the San Francisco 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk's latest post
He wanted an extension and more money, and the 49ers gave that to him even after his 2024 knee injury, but he still wasn't happy. Maybe the reason a trade hasn't materialized is that no other team wants to give up much to risk having the mercurial receiver on their team. That would be a smart decision.
The truth is that Brandon Aiyuk is behaving as if he is among the best receivers in the NFL, and he simply isn't. He's a good player when he chooses to play, of course, but he is among many second-tier players at his position. The 49ers know they can win at a high level without Aiyuk, and did so in 2025 despite suffering the losses of other notable players.
The best part of the entire Aiyuk and 49ers situation, though, is that the Seattle Seahawks and 12s don't have to worry about such a player causing a problem in the Pacific Northwest. The team rebuilt its culture quickly when head coach Mike Macdonald was hired after the 2023 season. General manager John Schneider has brought in anti-Brandon Aiyuk-type players.
One was former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, a fantastic locker-room leader, even if his on-field production has diminished. Another is former Dallas Cowboys edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence, who was hoping to join the Seahawks to win a Super Bowl while providing valuable leadership. Mission accomplished.
Brandon Aiyuk will almost definitely never be with the Seattle Seahawks, either. When healthy, he's a good wide receiver. The baggage he carries with him off the field is too much of a gamble to take on.
