The Seattle Seahawks know they will begin next season by likely hosting the New England Patriots, a game the NFL shouldn't want due to the Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini situation overshadowing the opener, but if one rumor is correct, 12s will need to work their Christmas plans around a football game.

KJR's Dave "Softy" Mahler is reporting that he is "hearing" that Seattle will play the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas. The NFL has not yet confirmed the rumor, but fans will know for certain when the official schedule is released on Thursday, May 14, at 5 pm PT.

The Seahawks haven't played on Christmas Day before, and there are normally three time slots when that could happen next season. Netflix carries two games, one at 10 am PT and another at 1:30 pm PT. Those seem unlikely against teams as respected as LA and Seattle, however.

More likely, the game would be held on FOX in primetime at 5 pm PT. Again, nothing is guaranteed, and 12s will know for sure what the schedule holds, but if that game occurs and is in primetime, it will be Seattle's second of probably many primetime games. Week 1 will definitely be in primetime.

This is what happens when a team wins the Super Bowl and has a young roster and returns with most of that roster intact. The Seahawks did lose running back Kenneth Walker, cornerback Riq Woolen, and edge rusher Boye Mafe, among others, in free agency, but enough talent returns to allow Seattle to contend for a title for the second straight season.

The Rams will also be expected to contend, of course. Los Angeles was probably the second-best team in the NFL last year, but, obviously, two NFC teams cannot play in the Super Bowl. In essence, the NFC Championship game was the real Super Bowl, as both the Rams and Seahawks were quite a bit better than the Patriots.

If Softy Mahler is correct and the Seattle Seahawks play the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day, let's hope 12s get a late gift. And that the game won't start at 10 am PT.
