Seahawks fans knew the Cardinals' circus would end like this

That's too bad.

Just when the Seattle Seahawks' NFC West rival, the Arizona Cardinals, were getting interesting, they stopped. Not that the team in Phoenix is at all one to watch because of their won-lost record, because they are fairly wretched, but at least the Jacoby Brissett situation was entertaining.

The veteran quarterback, who has mostly been viewed as a backup quarterback, has gotten lots of starts when the presumed starter was hurt or the team was so bad, as is the case with the Cardinals, that there was no quarterback of long-term starting quality on the roster. He doesn't turn the ball over, but he doesn't win many games. He was 1-11 last season for Arizona.

Plus, until recently, he was basically holding out by not attending voluntary organized team activities because he seemed to want more guaranteed money on his 2026 deal. What a farce. According to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, Brissett will be reporting for mandatory minicamp this week.

Seattle Seahawks' rival, the Arizona Cardinals, sort of get some good news

The problem is the Cardinals, one of the worst-run organizations in the NFL, did this to themselves. The team signed free agent Gardner Minshew to a one-year deal this offseason worth as much as $8.25 million. $5.14 million of the deal was guaranteed. Minshew is expected to be QB2.

Meanwhile, Brissett has a cap hit of $9.19 million, but only $1.5 million of that is guaranteed. Leave it to a team like the Arizona Cardinals to sign a backup quarterback for more guaranteed money than the perceived starter has in the final year of his contract. That's what losing organizations do.

Moreover, while the Cardinals once again had a coaching change this offseason, the only really interesting bit about them was the Jacoby Brissett fiasco. He is trying to show the team is still willing to be a part when he is forced to, but he simply wants more guaranteed money.

That's fair. He's done more for the Seattle Seahawks' rival than was initially expected of him, being the main starter last season, and should be again in 2026. Brissett isn't going to shock anyone by leading Arizona to more than four or five wins, at most, but he will be available to start.

For a team as bad as the Cardinals are, and they haven't beaten the Seahawks since November 2021, losing nine straight games to Seattle, simply having players who can be part of losses each week is somewhat of a value. Not a good one, mind you, but then the Cardinals are a terrible franchise.
