Seattle Seahawks legend Bobby Wagner is looking for a new NFL home, assuming he still wants to keep playing. He doesn't have to, of course. He just turned 36, has won a Super Bowl, been named to All-Pro teams, and has nothing else to prove.
But if he wants to keep going, he would obviously have to find a team that needs an inside linebacker but is likely unwilling to pay top dollar to sign one. Unfortunately for Seahawks fans, this could mean that Wagner ends up with the Dallas Cowboys.
The linebacker also has a previous connection with Dallas's head coach, Brian Schottenheimer. He wasn't Wagner's position coach when both were in Seattle, but Schottenheimer was the offensive coordinator who would have been tasked with going against the defensive leader in practice. They clearly would have known each other well.
Former Seattle Seahawks superstar Bobby Wagner has a logical landing spot with the Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys also need a player of Wagner's ability to stop the run, an area where Dallas was fairly terrible last season. The team ranked 27th in yards allowed per rush (4.7) and last in rushing touchdowns allowed with 24.
Bobby Wagner might no longer be in his best form, of course, as age takes a toll on every player, but he has always excelled at stuffing the run. He's strong enough to take on any would-be blocker and has a history of stonewalling even the biggest and fastest running backs when faced with trying to get through or around the former Seahawks star.
The difficult part for Seahawks fans is seeing the linebacker in a different uniform. It simply feels odd. He might never have left the Pacific Northwest, of course, but the team, in a cost-cutting move, first released Wagner on the same day that it traded quarterback Russell Wilson in 2022.
After spending a season with the Los Angeles Rams, Wagner returned to the Seattle Seahawks for another season before leaving again. This time, he landed with the Washington Commanders and former Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. He wasn't brought back for 2026, though.
What seems certain is that if Wagner wants to keep playing, he is doing so more out of a love for the sport than for the huge amount of money he will make. He hasn't made more than $9 million in a season since 2021 with Seattle. If he plays again in 2026, he could be making $5 million or less.
As the Dallas Cowboys would value Wagner's leadership and his run-defense capability, Jerry Jones' team is a logical landing spot for the former Seahawks linebacker. Watching him play for a team that many NFL fans don't like wouldn't be fun for 12s, though.
