The Seattle Seahawks needed to do something in the first part of free agency after losing running back Kenneth Walker and safety Coby Bryant, and to answer those losses, the team chose to retain the services of cornerback Josh Jobe. The terms of the new deal aren't overly expensive, either.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Seattle and the corner agreed to a three-year deal worth as much as $24 million. That is a significant raise for the player, who was making closer to the league minimum, but it isn't such an overpay that the Seahawks don't still have a lot of money to spend.
In 2025, Jobe played in 16 games, had 15 starts, and allowed a quarterback rating of only 77.0, which came after a year where his QBR-allowed was just 76.6. This means that what the Seahawks have seen from Jobe over the last couple of seasons is probably what they should expect in the future.
Seattle Seahawks reportedly agree to terms with cornerback Josh Jobe
He is also good beyond just his coverage skills. He excels in run support and is a good and willing tackler. Sometimes, he does let his emotions get the best of him, as he did in Super Bowl LX when he could have been kicked out of the game after appearing to throw a punch as a New England Patriots player, but that feistiness is also what helps him be physical in coverage.
What comes next for Seattle is unknown, though. Will the team move on from Riq Woolen, choosing to pay Jobe instead? If so, who takes Woolen's place? The move the team made with Jobe might indicate what the Seattle Seahawks want to do in the 2026 draft. A cornerback might be a priority.
At least, Josh Jobe knows what his future looks like. He will be expected to be a starter, and a good one. He might play opposite a rookie, or perhaps Devon Witherspoon will move to outside corner, or maybe Nick Emmanwori does. Whatever happens, 12s can assume head coach Mike Macdonald will make it all work.
