The Seattle Seahawks have many good edge rushers and have had for a couple of years, but that was unfortunate for Jamie Sheriff. The preseason star simply couldn't break through to the active roster. He likely deserved to get a chance, but he wasn't going to outperform those players already there.
Sheriff was part of the team's final roster cuts again ahead of the 2026 season, and might have had a chance ot be brought back to the practice squad, but 12s might never know that. Instead, Sheriff went a different path this year, and one Seattle football fans might not love.
The edge rusher was signed to the Los Angeles Rams' practice squad, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. The move could pay off huge for Sheriff, and he might come back to back the Seahawks.

Of course, there is no guarantee that Sheriff will ever make the Rams' active roster, either, but he deserves better luck than he has had. He battles every rep, and while he might not be great against the run, in the Los Angeles defensive system, he probably could find a way to accumulate quarterback pressures.
He was an undrafted free agent out of South Alabama in 2024, and in the same year's preseason, he had 12 pressures with Seattle, including three sacks. He wasn't quite as good in 2025, but still managed to land on Seattle's practice squad. The team rightfully saw him as a developmental player who might one day be a decent producer in real games.
The Seahawks kept adding veteran edge rushers, however, like DeMarcus Lawrence and Dante Fowler Jr., and no matter what Sheriff did in the meaningless games, he was stuck in neutral.
In 2026, he missed the first preseason game, but in the final two he had three pressures and four run stuffs. For the first time, he was showing he could be a capable defender against the run too. His pass-rush skills were natural, but he had obviously worked on improving in all aspects of his position.
The Seahawks will not harbor any ill will against Jamie Sheriff for signing with one of their two greatest rivals. General manager John Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald have shown they want the best for current and former players. After all, the NFL is a business, and if someone can get paid to be involved, good for them.
The hope is that Sheriff is terrific should he ever get to play for the Los Angeles Rams if he ever gets elevated for game days. Maybe that goodness can't come against the Seattle Seahawks, though.
