Mike Macdonald likely isn't thinking too much about the future of the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator this week. Instead, his focus will be on the biggest game of his life. The game will be the most important of Klint Kubiak's life, too.
That is what happens ahead of a Super Bowl. The week that leads up to the game will be filled with an overreaction to any news, lots of rumors, but little calm. That is true about everything else except the future of Kubiak.
Seattle's offensive coordinator might be spending his final few days with the team. He had an interview with both the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday, but in the next week, teams aren't able to contact Kubiak. His focus should be on playing the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX.
Seattle Seahawks might soon lose Klint Kubiak to the Las Vegas Raiders
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the OC's meeting with the Raiders for their open head coaching vacancy "went well." Part of the meeting (or maybe all of it) seemed to consist of Klint Kubiak having dinner with Raiders owner Mark Davis at a steakhouse. That kind of relaxing activity could mean the Raiders are ready to make Kubiak an offer.
In fact, that Vegas hasn't yet made an offer to another potential head coach likely speaks volumes. The Raiders knew they would need to wait for Klint Kubiak as long as the Seahawks were in the playoffs. Interviews are allowed at certain times, but no firm offers. A team that might want to steal a coach whose team is in the championship game needs to risk a wait.
The same kind of situation unfolded when Seattle hired Mike Macdonald after the 2023 season, though the Seahawks got a little lucky in that Macdonald's former team, the Baltimore Ravens, fell just short of making the Super Bowl. Seattle's wait wasn't as long as the Raiders.
Las Vegas hiring Klint Kubiak would make sense. He has the kind of offensive system that would help a young quarterback, as the scheme relies on running backs to run the ball effectively, which takes the pressure off the quarterback, and the Raiders will probably choose Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the first pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
Kubiak might not be the most riveting of speakers, but that probably doesn't matter much to many NFL teams. They simply need him to be a good football coach, and as Seattle Seahawks fans have learned, Kubiak is definitely that. The issue is that Mike Macdonald might be looking for his third offensive coordinator in as many years should the Raiders expectantly hire Kubiak.
