The Seattle Seahawks left themselves very thin along the middle of the defensive line when initial roster cuts were made on Tuesday. The team kept Jarran Reed and Byron Murphy II, while veteran Jonathan Hankins is still on the roster on the reserve/NFI list, but after that, only emptiness.
Seattle quickly made amends for that with one of its first reported practice squad signings. Quinton Bohanna had a very good training camp and preseason, and he had experience working with Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde when both were with the Dallas Cowboys, but general manager John Schneider made a safe guess.
He assumed he might be able to waive Bohanna, but have him clear waivers so he can be signed to the practice squad. The gamble worked. The truth is that rosters are 53 active players, but more like 69-man rosters.
Seattle Seahawks sign defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna to the practice squad
Players can be elevated off the practice squad as many as three times during a season before they must be part of the official roster. With Bohanna, he will probably be active early in the season on game days and likely will become part of the roster eventually.

Expecting Reed, Murphy, and Hankins to stay fully healthy for the entire season is probably a reach. The hope is they do, of course, but they also cannot be expected to play their best if they are constantly on the field. A rotation works best, and Bohanna should be part of that rotation.
The former Cowboys defensive lineman was on Seattle's practice squad in 2024, too. He appeared in one game and got seven defensive snaps. He is also huge at 6'4" and 355 pounds, but he appeared to have one of the best training camps of his career in 2025.
He will almost certainly be involved in more than one game in 2025, and should have an impact on early downs, ones that are obvious rushing plays. He is difficult to move, even if he might not ever supply much interior pass rush.
The Seattle Seahawks can sign as many as 16 players to the practice squad. A number of defensive linemen will probably be among those who are on the squad. Bohanna's large presence makes complete sense.
