General manager John Schneider did something somewhat unexpected in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. The Seattle Seahawks' GM took guard Grey Zabel with the 18th overall choice. This was the highest Schneider had taken an interior offensive lineman in his many years with the team.
Could he do the same kind of thing again in 2026? ESPN's Jordan Reid thinks so. Reid has Seattle choose Chase Biscontis of Texas A&M at pick 32. Biscontis would then battle for the starting right guard spot, a position that has been a problem for the Seahawks for many years.
Biscontis's arrival could also push one failed previous draft pick completely out the door, but that player isn't Anthony Bradford. At least, not yet. Instead, Biscontis could replace Christian Haynes, a third-round choice in 2024 who hasn't been able to earn much playing time at any spot.
Seattle Seahawks choosing Chase Biscontis would likely cost Christian Haynes his job
The team has tried to give Haynes some chances. Some thought he might be able to overcome Bradford, a three-year starter, for reasons only the Seahawks know. Bradford is a strong guard who doesn't move well and isn't good at any aspect of his job.
He is still better than Haynes, though, as Haynes hasn't been able to beat out Bradford for reps. Haynes also got some looks at center last year in training camp, but he couldn't snap the ball consistently well. That should be a simple, fundamental thing to do, but Haynes couldn't even do that.
After getting 167 snaps as a rookie in 2024, he received only 38 in 2025 and split between all the interior offensive line spots. He absolutely isn't going to beat out Zabel at left guard, can't play center, and the team has shown it would rather have Bradford at right guard.
That is, unless John Schneider chooses Chase Biscontis (which, no disrespect to Reid, isn't expected to happen by most Seahawks insiders). If that were to happen, Biscontis would have to flip from the left guard spot he played in college to the right side, where he played only 62 reps, and those all came in 2023.
The guard is 6'5" and 315 pounds, but, according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required), didn't grade overly well at run-blocking last year. He was also torched by the Miami Hurricanes in the playoff game, giving up four pressures and a sack.
In other words, while the Seattle Seahawks could take a guard early in the 2026 NFL draft, that is unlikely to be Chase Biscontis. There is no guarantee he would be an upgrade over Anthony Bradford. Christian Haynes should feel safe about his job for now.
