The Seattle Seahawks found a new way to lose Sunday afternoon. It's pretty hard to win when you giftwrap 21 points for your opponents. Heck, George Holani even handed them one of their presents. Despite the loss, Seattle did see some great performances Sunday, and a few players saw their stock rise higher than ever.
There was no shortage of poor play in Week 5's loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Whether it was Sam Darnold's poor decision-making or George Holani's habit of carrying the football like a toddler running with a Twinkie, the offense hand-delivered the game to the Niners. Thankfully, not everyone played that poorly.
Now, 12s, when you read the names below, I know what you'll say. "Hey idiot, those guys are all stars already!" In my defense, none of them are the biggest names on the roster, so there's that. And Trevon Diggs wasn't even targeted once, so what's there to say that Mike Evans hasn't already? You have to admit, that was good stuff. Alright, on to my choices and why these players are on the rise.
These Seattle Seahawks are rising higher than ever
Byron Murphy II
Yeah, we all know about Murphy. But outside of Seattle, he's still a vastly underappreciated talent. That's changing, and his performance against the 49ers will go a long way toward continuing that. Usually he's a space eater, devouring double teams so his cohorts can make the big plays. Six tackles (three for a loss), three quarterback hits, and two sacks changed the script. What an absolute beast.
Jason Myers
Remember all the worries about Myers in the preseason? It almost seems laughable in retrospect. While his kickoffs are still a bit iffy, they were fine this week. And what can you say about a guy who nails all five field goals in yet another Seahawks contest that saw them falter on third down (3 of 12, for goodness' sake)? Myers is back to Mister Automatic, and the doubts are properly dispelled.
Nehemiah Pritchett
Pritchett is the only one of the three who hasn't already established his reputation on this team. That's changing quickly, even faster than he closed on the Niners' Jacob Cowing in Sunday's action. Now that was a hit, my friends. Pritchett broke up one pass and picked off another in the third quarter to kill a San Francisco drive with Seattle trailing. Pritchett is truly on the rise.
