Tom Brady may be on verge of doing something with Seahawks besides calling games

What does it mean?

The Seattle Seahawks are just two steps from being the Super Bowl victor for the 2025 season. The team is obviously talented, but an elite coaching staff buoys that. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is a part of that, and Seattle's success might mean Kubiak gets a promotion elsewhere.

According to Jordan Schultz, who used to be someone important at Fox Sports until he wasn't, the Las Vegas Raiders are very interested in hiring the Seahawks' Kubiak. What works well for the Vegas is that Tom Brady is a part-owner, but he also works for Fox to broadcast NFL games.

Brady will be part of the broadcast crew that covers the Seattle and Rams game, and that means Brady, who will be making the team's decision on which head coach to hire along with general manager John Spytek, will get to talk about the game while he is somewhat scouting Kubiak. Weird? You bet.

The NFL doesn't believe in conflict of interest when it comes to Brady. He can do no wrong, of course. But if a different team owner was broadcasting games (which is odd in itself) and thinking of hiring someone working for one of the teams that they are speaking about on a national broadcast, that would be weird, right? And maybe not allowed.

The truth is that while the situation is a strange one, Kubiak likely deserves a head coaching job somewhere. Should he, if offered, choose the Raiders over another possibility? That's iffy. The assumption is that Vegas will choose a quarterback with the first overall pick in the draft, and that is likely to be Indiana's Fernando Mendoza.

The Raiders roster overall still isn't good, however. That means the first year with a rookie quarterback could be a rough one. If Kubiak goes to Las Vegas and the team is not much better than it was in 2025, when they went 3-14, how does that make Kubiak look? Will Brady, Mark Davis, and the other team owners give Kubiak a long leash?

Kubiak might also have the odd stigma for some fans of being associated with the Seattle Seahawks. Not that it should be a bad thing, because Seattle has been a far more successful organization over the last few decades than the Raiders.

But former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll just had a one-and-done season in Vegas, and fans might just think Vegas is hiring people from Seattle in hopes the Raiders turn into the Seahawks. That would be a wrong opinion, of course, but at least Tom Brady will have a clear view of his next potential hire as head coach when the Seahawks play the Rams in the NFC Championship game.
