On the same day the Seattle Seahawks made it known that franchise icon Tyler Lockett would not be returning after more than a decade of service, they were also dealt a major slap to the face when they were informed ultra-consistent dynamo DK Metcalf has decided to request a trade.
Metcalf, who has recorded at least 900 yards receiving in every professional season, can be a game-changing weapon for any team out there who needs a vertical threat who can be a weapon in the red zone. Seattle may be able to kick-start a serious retooling with the assets they get in any Metcalf trade.
Looking at the current trade landscape, it would be difficult to imagine a situation in which the Seahawks' front office would turn down these three trade offers. Metcalf's tenure in Seattle doesn't seem like it will last much longer.
3 trade packages the Seahawks should pursue after bombshell DK Metcalf news
3. The Patriots push for the playoffs
The Patriots are reportedly obsessed with finding a No. 1 wide receiver for Drake Maye, and the backlog of draft capital they have could make them a bit more comfortable with overpaying when compared to other teams. Seattle could pounce on this offer to bring in three additional players.
Seattle gets multiple picks they can use on receivers that can replace Metcalf, all while the Patriots get someone defenses will actually fear alongside Maye in Mike Vrabel's second go-around as a head coach.
2. The Chiefs reload
Kansas City's best pass-catching options right now are the ghost of Travis Kelce in what will likely be his final season, Rashee Rice coming off an injury, and a limited Xavier Worthy. Metcalf would instantly become Patrick Mahomes' top vertical target in 2025 and beyond.
The Chiefs may need some extra offensive line help after trading away Joe Thuney, which could make it tough for them to part with pick No. 31. However, Kansas City will always be in win-now mode with Mahomes as the starting quarterback, which could force them into a move like this.
1. The Ravens take a big swing
The Ravens have Zay Flowers in the fold, but he looks more like a high-end WR2 than a dominant WR1. Bateman, a former first-round pick who did score nine touchdowns last season, could help Seattle mitigate the loss of both Metcalf and Lockett in the same offseason.
The Ravens should never stop trying to add wide receivers for Lamar Jackson. Bateman may have hit his ceiling last season, and Metcalf is better than both him and Flowers. Seattle, meanwhile, won't have to roll into a season with Jake Bobo as the No. 2 wide receiver.
