The Seattle Seahawks have signed wide receiver River Cracraft, who, to be fair, might be more of a household name in Washington state than anywhere else. That isn't a bad thing. It just means 12s have even more reasons to pull for their favorite team.
Cracraft is not seemingly a franchise-changing signing, of course. Heck, maybe he will suddenly turn out to be, but that would only mean good things for the Seahawks. The 30-year-old has spent seven seasons in the NFL after being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Denver Broncos in 2018. Seattle will be the fourth team he is on in his career.
Over that time, he has caught 32 passes for 374 yards and three touchdowns. He has a career-high of nine catches in a season in both 2022 and 2023. Still, he was extremely productive in college for the Washington State Cougars.
Updated Seattle Seahawks wide receiver depth chart
Cracraft ranks sixth in Cougars history with 20 touchdown catches, sixth in receiving yards with 2,701, and second in receptions with 218. He spent some of his youth in Yakima but went to high school in California. He still came back to Washington for college, however, so that makes his signing slightly more notable than it otherwise would be.
Cracraft might have issues making the roster, though. This is what the wide receiver depth chart looks like currently:
- WR1: Jaxon Smith-Njigba
- WR2: Cooper Kupp
- WR3: Marquez Valdes-Scantling
- WR4: Jake Bobo
- WR5: Dareke Young
- WR6: Cody White
- WR7: River Cracraft
- WR8: John Rhys Plumlee
The first is likely set, and Bobo could be a better threat in new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak's system. This should be especially true in the red zone.

Smith-Nijgba is the clear top target, while Kupp, who is from Yakima himself, is just as clear at number two. Young will probably make the team again due to his prowess as a special team ace. White flashed some potential last year when he had a couple of catches in Week 9 against the Los Angeles Rams.
This leaves Cracraft with an outside chance of making the team, but let's hope he does so. The Seahawks could always use another Washington State legend on the roster.
