Leroy Hill: Deal With Seattle Imminent?

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

This morning on the Mitch in the Morning show on KJR (950 AM, Seattle), host Mitch Levy interviewed Seahawks head coach Jim Mora. Although several things were discussed during the interview, the comments that Mora made regarding the Leroy Hill situation stood out the most.
From the interview, according to Mora, “I’m hoping that Leroy is here this weekend for our minicamp, and I have a sneaking suspicion that he might be.”
Shortly after, Mora went on to reveal, “In talking to Leroy, as much as I have, is that he’ll be wearing a Seattle Seahawks uniform next year. I feel very [...]

Max Unger: A Eugene (Oregon) Perspective

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: Individual Prospects, NFL Draft | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Shortly after the 2009 NFL Draft concluded, I looked at the seven players selected by Seattle. I was fairly optimistic about our performance over the weekend; everything I’d read about the players we drafted looked positive, and they all seem like they’ll be good players in the NFL.
There was a problem, however.
Prior to researching for the 2009 draft, I’d never heard of some of these guys. I follow college football, but the majority of the guys I’ve actually watched spent most of their time kicking the hell out of my team. I was more interested in changing the channel rather [...]

Lucas, Griffith Deals Announced

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: News | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Seahawks sure didn’t wait long to spend the money earned from rescinding Leroy Hill’s franchise tag designation. They were immediately off the hook for $8.3 million, and were able to reach agreements with veterans Ken Lucas and Justin Griffith.
The Seahawks made the official announcement earlier this week, but I wasn’t able to immediately track down the financial specifics. Ken Lucas signed a one-year deal worth $2.3 million, and Justin Griffith’s contract is a one-year deal as well, worth less than $700,000. Both bargain prices for proven veteran players who will be able to contribute immediately.
Conventional wisdom will tell you [...]

Draft Recap: Day One Selections

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: Individual Prospects, NFL Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

Aaron Curry, Linebacker
Wake Forest University
First round, 4th overall pick
I couldn’t have scripted a better situation for the Seattle Seahawks in the top of the first round. I honestly didn’t think there was any chance that Curry would fall out of the top three, although my mock draft did have the Seahawks selecting him – most likely wishful thinking on my part. Along with several other fans, I considered Curry to be the best prospect available in the 2009 NFL Draft. Here is something I wrote about Curry for NFLMocks.com, when asked who I thought the best player was in the [...]

2009 NFL Draft: Seahawks Are Winners?

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: NFL Draft | COMMENTS: 9 Comments

In the days following the NFL Draft, the so-called “experts” begin to offer hindsight analysis and grades on every team’s performance from the prior weekend. The NFL Draft has become such a large event that even casual fans are chiming in with their opinions.
I am very pleased with how the Seahawks drafted over the weekend. They stayed true to their “best player available” philosophy, and their draft board influenced decisions and took precedence over all.
From what I’m hearing, most of Seattle fans tend to agree with me: Seattle (and Tim Ruskell) had an outstanding performance through the weekend. On the [...]

Draft Recap: Transactions

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: NFL Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

Seahawks receive:
2010 first-round pick

Broncos receive:
2009 second-round pick (37):
CB Alphonso Smith

Analysis: An absolute steal. I was surprised that Seattle traded away the 37th overall pick; I was shocked to see what Denver gave up for it. The way things are looking, the first-round selection obtained from Denver (their natural pick, not the pick obtained in the Jay Cutler deal) could potentially be a top ten choice next year. In a draft somewhat deprived of depth and overall talent, trading away a two this year for a one next year is a no-brainer. Alphonso Smith is an undersized, talented player, but Seattle [...]

Ken Lucas is expected to sign with Seattle, which could be announced as early as later today. Specific details of the contract are not certain, but I’ll post more when they become available.
In addition to Ken Lucas, the Seahawks are also expected to sign fullback Justin Griffith to a one-year contract.
Opinion and details of today’s signings, as well as more draft coverage, will be coming later tonight and tomorrow.

12th Man Rising: Live Draft Diary (Day Two)

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Link: Live Draft Diary (Day One)
5:11 PM: The draft is officially over. I’ve been busy all day, but I’ve been able to keep track of what the Seahawks have been doing. It was good to see them draft a quarterback in the sixth round (Mike Teel), and all of their picks in the seventh round offer a lot of value. I’ll be posting more later tonight covering the draft! Thanks for all of the comments this weekend, 12th Man.
10:15 AM: The Seahawks don’t have another pick coming up anytime soon, so I’m going to take a break here. Hopefully I’ll [...]
