Bird Nerd Facts: Did You Know?

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

“Through 2010, the Seattle Seahawks are one of just five NFL teams that have never drafted a Heisman Trophy winner in the NFL Draft. Jim Zorn threw touchdown passes to two different Pro Football Hall of Fame receivers during his career.  He threw 43 of them to Seahawks teammate Steve Largent.  During his one season in Green Bay he connected on a 52 yard touchdown pass to eventual Hall of Famer James Lofton.  That would also be the last touchdown pass he would throw in the National Football League. The last touchdown pass Jim Zorn would throw with the Seahawks [...]

Bird Nerd Facts: Did you know?

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: None Yet

“The first former Seahawk in the Professional Football Hall-of-Fame was former Steelers great Franco Harris who finished his career in Seattle. The first touchdown pass Jim Zorn threw during his career came in the Seahawks first game as a franchise.  It was a 15 yard third quarter score in a 30-24 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals and was caught by Sam McCullum. The first player ever awarded the Steve Largent Award by the Seattle Seahawks was none other than Steve Largent himself. The Steve Largent Award is awarded each year to the team contributor who exemplifies the spirit, dedication, and [...]

Seahawks Spotlight: Paul Allen’s Energy Conservation “Qwest”

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: None Yet

Since taking over the team, Seahawks owner and Microsoft co-founder, Paul Allen, has given fans a new home to be proud of  for many years to come. Qwest field, is now widely recognized as the loudest and in some respects, most advanced stadium in the NFL. Now, to add to an already spectacular venue, it has recently been reported that team management gave the go-ahead to install 3,750 solar panels to the Qwest Field Event Center’s roof. Here’s what Seahawks President, Peter McLoughlin, had to say about the project. “What a perfect spot for it,” McLoughlin said. “It’s the right [...]

Seahawks Spotlight: Qwest Field to Be Renamed?

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The construction of Qwest Field was approved by voters in a statewide election in 1997. The Seahawks played their first game in their new stadium in 2002. It is now known for being the loudest stadium in the NFL. The home of the Seahawks was originally called, “Seahawks Stadium.” In June, 2004, the name was changed to Qwest Field after Qwest Communications International, Inc. bought the naming rights for a whopping $75 million for a 15 year period. In the not-so-distant past, Qwest began a merger with CenturyLink, which was completed on April 1, 2011. Following the completion of this merger, [...]

12th Man Report: Who’s Organizing Mini-Camp?

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: None Yet

As I was driving home from work yesterday, I was listening to a local sports show in Spokane called “The Locker Room” with Toby Howell.  Unfortunately, I was only in the car for about 5 minutes (got to love that Spokane traffic), so I am not sure who he was interviewing, but it was about the Seahawks.  The discussion was concerning player prompted workouts going on in the NFL right now.  The interviewee talked about hearing Mike Williams on some Seattle stations stating that “a certain player” is trying to organize such a workout for Seahawks’ players.  It was then [...]

Seahawks Spotlight: Earl Thomas, a New Leader for a Team in Transition

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Earl Thomas more than proved his worth last season. The 22-year-old rookie safety bagged up 76 tackles, one forced fumble and 5 interceptions. As Seattle continues to revamp their aging, lackluster lineup, Thomas will no doubt be one of the players who helps the team during their rebuilding process. The ‘Hawks 2010, first-round draft pick, has shown that he can be a true leader poised with youthful eagerness to “fire-up”  both, the team’s defense and its fans. In April of last year, Seattle’s head coach, pete Carroll, gave enthusiastic statements about his “stud” selection. “We thought we saw something really [...]

Seahawks History: Ring of Honor, Part-1 of 5

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Seahawks have an interesting way of paying homage to those who have contributed to their team. The Seattle Seahawks Ring of Honor is a list of these important contributors which is remarkably displayed at the home of the Seahawks, Qwest Field. Each of the inductees to the Ring of Honor made an impact to the team. The first person in the Ring of Honor is Dave Brown. Dave Brown was a cornerback who was chosen by the Seahawks from the Steelers in their expansion draft in 1976. He played for the Seahawks for 10 years, from ’76 to ’86. [...]

Seahawks Spotlight: Will the Lockout Have a Long-Term Effect?

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL, Seahawks | COMMENTS: None Yet

Is the sky really falling in the NFL? Maybe. Last Monday (a week and a half ago) a federal appeals court ruled that the NFL’s lockout remain in place. The next hearing for that case is June 25. All three of the judges who ruled on Monday’s decision were appointed by former Presidents of the United States… who have nothing better to do… during an economic meltdown… than to try to alleviate the pressure between the rich guys and the really rich guys, so the person who actually pays for the product can see it. Ridiculous. The sound has always been there. [...]

Seahawks Fandamonium: Fans Will Not See Replacement Players

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Any notion that fans might see replacement players on the field for the 2011-12 season–––due to the ongoing labor dispute between teams and players–––was recently dispelled (for now) as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, has made such clear with recent statements. “We have not had any discussions or consideration of replacement players,” Goodell said at a news conference closing the annual owners meetings. “It hasn’t been discussed, it hasn’t been considered, and it’s not in our plans.” “We are certainly planning on having a full season,” he said. “That’s our objective, and we’re going to work as hard as we can to [...]
