Seahawk RB Marshawn Lynch Officially Charged with DUI

Just 2 days after being arrested on suspension of DUI, Marshawn Lynch has been officially charged by the by the district attorney in Oakland. He has a court date tentatively set for August 14th.

The charges, even without a conviction, are enough for the league to take action against Lynch. The problem is that there is a lot of debate as to what that action will, or can, be. As Scott pointed out yesterday, the league’s punishment could range from a 50k fine to a multi-week suspension.

The court date is currently set for the middle of camp, and is likely to be moved. Lynch’s representatives will most likely ask for a ruling from the NFL before asking to move the court date. If Lynch is suspended, his time in court will be pushed back to after the start of the suspension so that it doesn’t interfere with his job (a request that will most certainly be granted by the courts.) If the NFL is waiting for the results of the court proceedings to rule on a suspension, then expect Lynch’s people to ask for an expedited hearing.

All of this leaves the Seahawks in wait and see mode.
