More Than Just Football: Marshawn Lynch And Fam 1st Family Foundation

With all of the negative stories in the media this time of year about the NFL and it’s players, I thought it would be good to remember that there is a lot of absolute ton of good things being done by NFL players that never gets reported. To combat this, I’m spending this week profiling just a few of the Seahawks players and their foundations that are actively involved in giving back to the community.

Today, I’d like to direct everyone’s attention to Marshawn Lynch’s Fam 1st Family Foundation. When I started looking up information for this series, I had no idea that Lynch even had a foundation. We simply never hear about it, or about any of the cool stuff that the foundation does.

Here’s all the necessary info, in convenient FAQ format:

Who’s All Apart Of This?

Marshawn Lynch isn’t the only NFL player involved in this foundation. The other is QB Josh Johnson, who’s been was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers until recently, and is currently with the Bangles.

What Does The Foundation Do?

Here’s what the foundation’s website has to say:

"Fam 1st Family Foundation is dedicated to uplifting and empowering youth in the Bay Area and throughout the United States. The foundation’s mission is one of empowerment and education, aiming to build self-esteem and academic learning skills in underprivileged youth."

From what I can tell, that means scholarships, literacy programs, training programs on financial responsibility, art programs, and a bunch of other things. Seriously, this foundation offers a ton of diverse programs for kids. It’s rather impressive.

Where Can I Find More Information?

Fam 1st Family Foundation has it’s own website that lists out just about everything you might want to know. The Foundation also has a facebook page. Plus you can follow them on twitter @fam1stfam.

Is There Anything I Can Do To Help?

They seem to have plenty of fundraising events in the offseason, but everything is down in the California. Unless you live in the Bay area, there isn’t much that you can do other than donate money to help support their programs. If you’d like to donate, visit their website and click on the button in the upper left hand corner.
