Getting Caught Up On The Seattle Seahawks

If you’ve been looking for my byline here at 12MR this past week, you’ve likely been fairly disappointed. My family and I have been moving, and I haven’t had internet until late yesterday. I’m back now, and have spent the last few hours getting myself caught up on everything that’s happened with the Seahawks while I’ve been gone. Luckily, it doesn’t appear that I missed all that much.

Transactions

There was just 1 transaction in this past week. WR Greg Herd was waived, and the team signed WR Donavon Kemp to take his place. It was only a matter of time before Herd was waived. It was already apparent that he wasn’t going to make the 53 man roster, and his injury meant he wasn’t even able to help filing the practice reps. I have no idea what to expect from Kemp, but chances are high that he’s just another camp body like Herd was.

Injures

It appears that there were no significant injuries during my absence. Instead, players like Bruce Irvin and Cliff Avril have healed and are back to practicing, although neither is going to play on Saturday. Robert Turbin also returned from injury, and should be playing this week.

The big news on the injury front was that James Carpenter’s foot injury is worse than previously expected. He isn’t expected play in the preseason until week 4, which makes it very difficult for him to beat out McQuistan for the starting job at LG.

Christine Michael has some back spasms, but he’ll be back soon enough.

Training Camp Stories

Wide receiver Phil Bates, whom the coaches like but is very unlikely that he’ll make the roster, has been getting reps at FB. He’s not about to unseat Robinson, Ware, and Colemen to make the roster, the position change could land him on the practice squad and extend his career.

In an interview, Pete Carroll indicated that he’d be ok with keeping just 5 WRs, instead of the usual 6, if a 6th WR doesn’t step up and show they belong. That would be a direct challenge to 4th round rookie Chris Harper, who’s the 6th WR on the roster and has struggled to pick up the option route concepts the Seahawks use on offense.

Zach Miller has been taken off the PUP list and will begin practicing the next time the Seahawks practice (which I think is Monday). This is great news. TE one of the few places where the team lacks depth. The Seahawks need Miller on the field for week 1.
