The Seattle Seahawks need help along the offensive line, and San Francisco’s Alex Boone would be a great fit.

We all know that the Seahawks need some major help on along the offensive line. The unit was terrible last season, and now they’re set two lose their two most-competent blockers to free agency.

Getting at least one future starter in the draft is necessity, but starting two rookies on the line is a bad idea. That’s a good way to get Russell Wilson killed.

That means that a free agent must be signed. Ideally it’ll be either Okung or Sweezy, since they already know the offense. If that doesn’t happen, then bringing in another vet will have to happen.

Alex Boone will be an interesting name to watch in this scenario. He’s a good run blocker, and does a good job of moving defenders and creating running lanes.

Another key reason why he’d be a fit in Seattle is that he won’t break the bank to sign. Spotrac projects his next contract to be under $3 million per season. That’s less than what it will likely take to re-sign Sweezy.

Compare that to someone like Houston’s Brandon Brooks, who is projected to make around $8 million per season, and Boone appears to be quite affordable. Kelechi Osemele is another option that people have talked about, but he’s likely to get $10 million per season.

Boone presents a much more reasonable option from a financial standpoint. He’s also only 28, so he’ll be in his prime over the lifetime of a three-year contract.

Boone might not be an ideal fit in Seattle, but he would provide some veteran leadership and stability to a unit that seems to always be in flux. His presence would also allow Mark Glowinski to compete with Justin Britt at the other guard spot, possibly allowing the team to upgrade two positions along the line.

The Seahawks need blocking help, and they could do far worse at RG than Alex Boone.
