Kam Chancellor may be busy with the Seattle Seahawks these days when it comes to the upcoming season, as he is back in Seattle with the Legion of Boom defense for the 2017-2018 season. Chancellor and the other Seahawks players could be busy with practice and learning how to play with the new draft players. Chancellor, though, was completely shocked when he learned that Cortez Kennedy had passed away.

The news broke this morning when the Seattle Seahawks’ official Twitter account revealed that Cortez had passed away.

According to Instagram, Kam Chancellor had to pay his respect to a man who he knew personally. Kam shared a picture of himself with Cortez. He reveals that he is completely shocked by the death of the Seahawk icon. He wrote the following on Instagram.

"Wow I can’t believe Cortez is gone at 48. I can say that he was one of the nicest professional men I’ve met. He used to always call me his “Hero”. The stories we talked about from when he used to play were eye opening. Winning a ring and seeing how much that meant to him was cool coming from a legend, a Hall Of Famer. My condolences go out to the family and anyone else close to Cortez. I’m going to miss him around the practice facility this season…. R.I.P."

12s Mourn

Of course, the entire Seahawks community is in mourning today. Cortez was just 48 years old. Even more heartbreaking is how Chancellor remembers how Cortez used to call him his hero, which just shows how humble and encouraging Kennedy was. And even though he had retired, many players remember him walking around the practice facility, as one can imagine that football was close to his heart.

What do you think of Kam Chancellor’s heartwarming post about the Seahawks icon? Are you surprised that such a pillar of the Seahawks community has made such a big impression on the younger stars?
