Bet On This: Seahawks Are Huge Underdogs This Week

I just looked up the betting line for Sunday’s game, and found out that the Seahawks are 14 point underdogs to the Steelers. I have to say that I’m surprised that the spread is that large. The Steelers are the week’s biggest favorite, and there’s only one other game that (Green Bay vs. Carolina) that even at double digits.

In all honesty, I don’t think Seattle is going to win this week. Road game on the east coast? Lets just say Seattle’s poor track record in the eastern time zone speaks for itself. But this spread makes me wonder if Vegas actually watched last week’s games.

Did they not see Pittsburgh get killed by the Ravens? Did they not see Seattle’s incredibly stout defense? Was it not apparent that the outcome of the Seahawk-49er game was almost entirely because of very fixable special teams mistakes? 10 point spreads in the NFL are rare, and 14 point spreads are almost unheard of.

For those of you who don’t know yet, I cut my teeth as a sports blogger over at SodoMojo.com. It’s the Seattle Mariners blog for the same network that 12th Man Rising is a part of. The Editor/Lead Writer over there is Harrison Crow, and it turns out he’s a huge Steelers fan.

Harrison and I decided to make this weekend’s game a little more interesting. If the Steelers beat the spread, Harrison will get to post a picture of me holding up a “Steelers rock” sign over on his blog. If the Seahawks beat the spread, than you’ll be seeing a pic of Harrison holding up a “Seahawks rock” sign.

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how much losing this bet will hurt me.
