5. Kris Richard isn’t learning
Pete Carroll might want to take more control of the defense for the rest of the season. Rookie defensive coordinator Kris Richard is struggling this the basics of his job, and it is killing the team right now.
The Seahawks were able to bottle up Cam Newton and the Panthers for most of the first three quarters. They couldn’t even slow them down in the fourth quarter. If that sounds familiar, it is because it is exactly the same thing that happened last week.
Richard put together a decent game plan for stopping what Carolina likes to do. But the Panthers made adjustments, and Richard didn’t adapt.
Richard and Seattle’s defense had no answers. In the fourth quarter the last two weeks, his play calling was just throwing crap at a wall and seeing what sticks. Nothing did, and the Seahawks lost.
Nothing worked, again. The Seahawks blew a big lead, again. It is time to try something else.
