3. Trevone Boykin’s Continued Development

Trevone Boykin entered last week’s game as the favorite to win the backup QB job behind Russell Wilson. He started off slow, missing calls and rushing his throws. He looked like an NFL rookie. Pete Carroll even took him out in favor of 3rd stringer Jake Heaps.

Eventually, Carroll decided to give the rookie another shot in crunch time, and Boykin took advantage. When all seemed lost, Boykin regained his composure and led a game-winning, four play, 88 yard drive with one minute left. It concluded with Boykin throwing a 37 yard bomb to fellow rookie Tanner McEvoy.

Throughout the drive, Boykin showcased his incredible arm, pinpoint accuracy, and impeccable command. The uptempo, no-huddle style benefited Boykin. Because he comes from a spread system, Boykin is still learning a pro style offense. During today’s game, keep an eye on Boykin’s command of the Seahawks huddle and how he calls the game.

Next: Michael Bennett for president?

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson will barely play during today’s game. Hopefully, that last drive will help Boykin with his confidence and lead to better command of the huddle.
