4. Brian Hoyer – San Francisco 49ers

So….the 49ers have an, um…interesting quarterback situation. Colin Kaepernick seemingly has made the decision that he would take a chance on signing anywhere else other than taking the money to stay put with the 49ers. San Francisco is not good. Neither are any of the quarterbacks currently on their roster.

Hoyer? Matt Barkley? Those gentleman may be grand human beings, but they do not need to be starting quarterbacks in the NFL. Still, one of them will be this season. Most likely, the 49ers quarterback week one will be Hoyer.

Hoyer’s best QBR by far (and I mean by far) is the time he threw one pass for the New England Patriots in 2011. That one pass earned him a QBR of 88.4. He completed that pass for 22 yards. His next best QBR is in 2010 when he threw 15 passes. His QBR was 61.7. Here’s a question: Are more people surprised by his 1) extremely horrible QBR rating? or 2) that he ever played for the Patriots?

Hoyer is terrible. Backup Barkley is also terrible. The 49ers are either assuming they will sign Kirk Cousins next offseason or be able to choose the best quarterback in next season’s draft. If the latter is true, this means San Francisco will be awful again in 2018.

Prediction: So will Hoyer. A season where he throws more interceptions than touchdowns is presumed.
