Seahawks bear many gifts this Christmas for their ever loyal 12s
The Seahawks truly embody the spirit of Christmas. Let’s take a look at everything they put under the tree this year, shall we?
The Seahawks have certainly been in a giving mood this year. As in giving beatdowns to the Vikings and the Chiefs over the past few weeks. Okay, maybe beatdown is exaggerating things, but Seattle put a damper on both team’s playoff standings. The gifts certainly didn’t stop there, as Seattle gave the 12s much to celebrate.
The most obvious gift is the return of the Seahawks to the playoffs. In a year that many predicted would be a dismal one. Nate Davis of ESPN said the Hawks would go 4-12. He missed badly on at least half of his predictions, so it clearly wasn’t targeted at Seattle. Pete Prisco of CBS was slightly more generous, predicting a 5-11 record. Like Davis, he blew about half of his picks.

I’ll cut them some slack on several of their picks. Everyone thought the Eagles, Falcons, and Jaguars would be great, including me. And there was ample cause to doubt the Seahawks in 2018. After all, they lost 18 Pro Bowl seasons worth of talent after 2017. Seattle lost another six seasons of Pro Bowl level performance when Earl Thomas went down in the fourth game. That made those predictions of doom and gloom even more likely.
And yet the Seahawks came through. The performance of Russell Wilson is no surprise. He’s done this kind of stuff before, after all. Chris Carson has fulfilled the promise of 2017, and then some. I imagine his legs are churning away even in the deepest sleep. Frank Clark has been every bit of the monster we expected when he stepped up to a starting role.
Clark really should be starting in the Pro Bowl with the great Bobby Wagner. The Seahawks great middle linebacker has picked up exactly where he left off from last year’s Defensive Player of the Year worthy effort. The Hall of Fame is just waiting for the calendar pages to flip through.
The emergence of Tyler Lockett as a top-tier wide receiver wasn’t a total surprise. He certainly didn’t surprise general manager John Schneider, who inked Lockett to a juicy (and well-deserved) contract extension before the season started. As Doug Baldwin struggled through injuries for virtually the entire season, Lockett has been a huge factor in Seattle’s return to the playoffs.
Speaking of contract extensions, head coach Pete Carroll got his own sweet gift under the tree on Christmas Eve. I love the fact that the deal was worked out before the Seahawks big win over the Chiefs. The two year extension will keep Carroll on the sidelines of his beloved team through 2021. I can’t think of a better gift for the 12s than ensuring Pete Carroll will have the chance to take his young revitalized, refreshed, retooled, anything but rebuilding Seahawks as far as they can go for at least the next few years.
